Planning is a very helpful way to organize life`s activities and happenings. It allows for better mental and physical preparation. Planning, organizing and preparing with a planner has been commonly known to make events easier to manage and track. Along with that are several tools that keep the written and journaled life happenings more convenient, fun and motivating to read, understand and act upon. Such tools aren`t exactly necessary but rather add-ons to keep one`s planner visually pleasing, interesting, enjoyable and easy to follow. Decorative accessories and items for the planner tend to seem an unnecessary extra expense. However, there are other ways to keep daily, weekly and monthly plans organized, easy-to-read and visually pleasing without spending much money.
Decorating planner spreads are fun and enjoyable to do. I personally don`t decorate my daily, weekly and monthly planner spreads all the time because it`ll cost time, money, decorative items and other accessories. However, since I still have quite a lot of decorative tapes, stickers and papers I was able to keep since my elementary days up to now, I ought to use them before they`re no longer useable and pretty. Whenever I design my weekly spreads, weekly plans tend to become more exciting as I look at and read them.
Planner spreads may vary in color, design, and theme. It can have a theme about the holidays, current season, or simply what the week is personally about. Here are the decorative tools and some helpful items that I mostly use when dabbing some color, creativity, and fun that can be incorporated in jotting down plans in daily, weekly and monthly spreads:
1.) Background Papers

These background papers have really lovely and feminine prints. Each print is pretty and quite visually pleasing. However, if I must have my current top picks, it would probably be the floral pink print, vintage Paris-inspired print, and the white floral print.
I use these supposed gift wrapping papers as backgrounds for the weekly planner spreads. If you look at my February weekly spread decorated with pink and cute hearts above, I used 2 different background prints. One is one of my current top picks which is the floral pink print used at the top and bottom part of the spread while the simple all-pink floral print was used for the main and middle part where I can write out my actual activities for the week.
2.) Washi/Paper Tapes and Glitter Tapes
The paper tapes are cute and colorful. They`re a fun way to decorate weekly planner spreads at the same time help stick small notes in the spread. Washi/Paper tapes usually come in different colors, designs, themes, and sizes.
Also, glitter tapes is a nice way to add some glitz in our weekly spreads. They`re simple but it makes a great difference to the overall look of the spread. It doesn`t have any other design but its color and glitters. It gives the entire spread an elegant and simple yet bright touch.
3.) Sticky Pads
Using sticky pads is a good way to write additional notes, reminders or other information that the weekly spread don`t have space for. They come in different colors, sizes, and themes that provide different purposes such as for bookmarking pages, note-taking or adding reminders.
4.) Colorful Pens
Using colorful pens is a helpful way to differentiate plans, events, and activities according to purpose. However, using too many pens might not be practical to do especially when planning or writing in our planners outside our houses. Therefore, having a 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 pen is more convenient.
5.) Decorative Labels and Stickers
Decorative labels and stickers is another little way to help us mark and remember what our activities are for and their level of importance. The stickers above are included in the 2017 Belle De Jour Power Planner. They`re cute and small which makes them fun to use as little labels for certain events in my planner.
These are just some of the items I use when I decorate my planner spreads because I sometimes use other decorative or craft items. I don`t often use these items all together in every planner spread. I use colorful pens, sticky pads, and stickers more often than the other planning tools in this list.
